Garden Route receives state-of-the-art radiology treatment facility

Over the last few years, the Garden Route, and George in particular, has become a preferred residential choice for many local and global citizens. The constant migration to this area, with its easy access to the airport, the N2 and other tourist attractions, have also turned George into a node for medical tourism, where many patients prefer to undergo extended treatment plans away from the hustle and bustle big cities. Dr Pieter Henning of the Keystone Medical Group says the city has become a preferred destination for medical tourism in particular.

The influx of people to George and the surrounding areas has necessitated the addition of more schools, residential property and of course, healthcare facilities. We are cognisant of the fact that good healthcare is an essential part of a strong and viable community and we are convinced that George has a demand for radiology services such as ours, which we offer across South Africa,’ he says.

Henning says in response to the growing demand and the KSM Group’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services to communities, they have opened a new Keystone Radiology Practice in George this week, situated at the Trefoil Square Medical Suites in Gloucester Avenue. He says the recent Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown has redefined the public’s understanding around access to essential healthcare services and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

We are a modern and innovative radiology service provider and we pride ourselves in the quality of our service delivery and diagnostic reporting. Taking a proactive approach to healthcare has become a new priority for many people. Early detection and accurate diagnosis of an underlying problem do not only help to avoid individuals losing the quality of life by living with unnecessary pain, but can also save time and money, but could easily become the determining factor when dealing with a life-threatening disease.’

Henning says they offer a convenient out-of-hospital service, in a low-risk environment, with as fast delivery of both radiology services and reporting. Meanwhile, in preparation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Keystone Medical is firmly placing the spotlight on the importance of regular screening as part of effective prevention measures.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type in women worldwide, with around 1.5 million new cases diagnosed every year. It is also the cancer most affecting women in South Africa, accounting for 0.7% of all deaths.

Henning says the group has deployed its modern, state-of-the-art Mobile Mammogram Unit to George as part of the #ScreenHerSaveHer campaign.

From Monday, 14 September to 9 October, the mobile unit will be stationed at the NG Moedergemeente in George, where both mammography and breast ultrasound studies will be available as part of our continuous fight against breast cancer.  Here we offer world-class breast cancer screening services, performed by highly qualified professional female staff,’ he says.
